Duct Cleaning and Sanitization
The average home is approximately 1000 to 3000 square feet and requires one and a half to two hours for two professionally-trained technicians to clean and sanitize the ducts. This routine maintenance process is extremely effective at clearing dust and dirt as well as harmful contaminants. Removing this build up instantly creates more efficient air circulation within your home. This leads to significantly more enhanced furnace performance and healthier air for you and your family.
Our Process
Upon arrival, our technician will make sure that the HVAC system is shut down so that it can be cleaned properly. The procedure then begins by connecting an 8” vacuum line to the supply area of the duct network that is found near the furnace. The HVAC system is then sealed using magnetic strips, which cover all supply and return grills without damage to the ducts. This process creates greater, more concentrated suction, which is necessary for a thorough cleaning.
The vacuum, which is mounted to our specialized truck, is then activated. Highly pressurized air (250psi) is then forced into each individual supply duct. Once all supply vents are completely clean, vacuum is then set to work upon the return section of duct network to repeat the cleaning procedure.
After this “air washing” procedure, the cleaning process continues in the basement. There, specialized tools are inserted into the system through a number of one-inch holes. Using these tools, any remaining dust is loosened and directed towards the vacuum and removed.
Additionally, both the air conditioning coil and the furnace are cleaned. All access panels and the one-inch holes are then sealed to be airtight. At this point, the HVAC system is ready to be turned back on and operate at its original settings.
Sanitization
Inside any duct system, moisture and heat combine to produce an accumulated mold and mildew — a breeding ground for bacteria — which can cause health problems for the home’s residents. Therefore, sanitizing is recommended whenever there is visible evidence of this type of growth. The sanitizer we use is a specially formulated, non-toxic solution that effectively kills 99.9% of all bacteria inside a duct system. The sanitizer is applied at the end of the cleaning procedure. A fog machine is used to create and disperse the sanitizing mist throughout the HVAC system. The HVAC is then turned on to permit the sanitizer to be circulated further.
